 Doll Me

Dolls have taken on many forms throughout history—lovely or ugly, magical or ordinary, beautiful or unsettling. They seem to carry their own lives, emotions, and stories. People are drawn to dolls because of their human likeness, yet they also fear them for the subtle uneasiness they evoke.

I began this project out of my deep interest in dolls and horror stories during my early illustration practice. I explored numerous accounts and documentaries on the history of dolls, ultimately selecting three real cases: the Natural Creeping Baby Doll, Little Miss No-Name, and Mexico’s Island of the Dolls. I expanded on these narratives through research and imagination, placing them in new contexts. The images in the project were created using pencil drawing and collage on paper, high definition scanning and colour management, and later compiled into a printed book.
